Java SE Runtime Environment 9

The default installation directory of a static JRE (prior to JDK 9) is C: Program Files (x86) Java jre n (for 32-bit versions) or C: Program Files Java jre n (for 64-bit versions), where n was the full Java SE release and update number (for example, n = 18.020 for JRE release 8 update 20). Download Java SE Development Kit (JDK) - The basic resources you need in order to create apps in Java, including the Java runtime environment, libraries, code samples and demo apps.

Update 60 doesn't automatically remove older versions of Java as previous versions did. You should uninstall update 51 and earlier versions before installing this update.

Java 7 was OK but Java 8 sucks hard- 'Medium' security level has been removed (now it has only 'Very High' and 'High' security levels) and therefore I cannot run Java applets in browsers which makes Java useless for me.

Ever since Oracle took over Sun, Java is going downhill at an alarming rate.
May Larry Ellison and company just go to hell.

Java SE Runtime Environment 9

Paired with Adobe's Flash, the biggest pest in computer history.
Wanna run something at the speed of a Commodore64, use Java !

Is not needed anymore unless you use Java standalone apps. I deleted JRE a week ago and had no problems with browsing.

This is the software that will make your Intel Core I7 Extreme system behave and feel like a 25Mhz Intel 80486 system.

Having to use the final Java is bad enough & although I use a lot of Beta software I draw the line at Java. The day I can get by without it is the day it's gone for ever on any of my PC's.

arossetti reviewed v8 Build b14 Preview Release on Nov 20, 2011

Wow. Java 7 hardly works with ANYTHING yet, and they're pushing 8? They must be taking lessons from Mozilla, though at least Firefox works, more or less..

At the same time, this very day, you have a 'Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update 29' which has been released, so frankly if you understand something to the way Oracle is distributing its updates, give me a hint if you please!
5 stars because I prefer java to tango ...
